Mamaroneck, NY — Westchester Eye Care
Serving Mamaroneck and greater Westchester County, Dr. Rubinstein provides comprehensive LASIK candidacy evaluations — and expert pre- and post-operative care — so your vision correction journey starts and ends in the right hands.
Laser vision correction is one of the most commonly performed elective procedures in the world — but it isn't right for everyone. Factors like corneal thickness, prescription strength, dry eye history, and overall eye health all play a role. Our Mamaroneck patients get a thorough, honest evaluation before any decisions are made.
Laser vision correction (LVC) comes in a few forms. The right choice depends on your prescription, corneal anatomy, and lifestyle. Here's what Westchester patients should know:
LASIK — Laser Assisted Keratomileusis
The most popular form of LVC. The surgeon creates a thin flap in the cornea, reshapes the tissue underneath to correct your vision, then repositions the flap. Recovery is rapid — many patients notice improved vision within hours. The flap can be created with a precision femtosecond laser (the current gold standard) or a surgical blade, both with strong safety records over millions of procedures.
PRK — Photorefractive Keratectomy
PRK reshapes the corneal surface without creating a flap — making it preferred for patients with higher prescriptions or thinner corneas. Recovery takes slightly longer (3–7 days for initial healing, up to 4 weeks for full results), but there are no flap-related risks. For the right patient, it's an excellent and proven alternative to LASIK.
Standard vs. high-definition laser
Both procedures can be performed with a standard or high-definition (wavefront-optimized) laser. The HD option reduces nighttime glare and halos — an important consideration for many patients, especially those commuting in and around Westchester.
Dry eye is a well-known side effect of laser vision correction. For most patients it's temporary. For others it can persist longer — but it's manageable, and our Mamaroneck practice specializes in exactly this type of post-surgical care.
